From the vivid shapes of its lunar-like landscape to the traditional charm of its whitewashed towns, Lanzarote is a totally unique island which is considered by many to be the most beautiful of the Canaries.
The island’s size and reasonable roads, coupled with inexpensive car hire, makes self-drive an attractive and realistic option for visitors to tour the island at their leisure. Alternatively there are many organised excursions to the popular places.
In addition to the glorious beaches across the island, there are numerous places of interest to visit, some of which are shown in the slide show. There are far too many to mention here, but full details are included in
the Information Pack in our villa.
Of special note are:
- a visit to the Fire Mountain, in the Timanfaya National Park, where you can see food being cooked over craters using lava stones, and camels leading visitors to the seat of the 'fire devil'
- the fantasy grotto 'Jameos del Agua' and 'Cueva de los Verdes' which are among the longest lava tunnels in the world
- the emerald lagoon 'El Golfo' and the cliffs of Los Hervideros, only 15 minutes away from the villa
- Mirador del Rio and the Cactus Garden, designed by the famous artist Cesar Manrique, who was responsible for setting the tone of Lanzarote and retaining its individuality
